What is a Law Label?

A legal label is a type of label attached to products such as furniture, bedding, upholstery, etc. that is designed to provide important information to the consumer. It usually contains information about the ingredients of the product, the place of manufacture, and a warning statement such as "unlawful removal of the label is by the consumer only".

Main purpose of the "Law Label"

The primary purpose of legal labeling is to ensure that consumers are aware of the true composition of a product and information about its manufacture, especially on products involving fillings, such as pillows, comforters, and mattresses. Legal labeling requirements may vary from state to state.

What is a Uniform Registry Number (URN)?

A Uniform Registration Number (URN) is a registration number issued by a state government that must be printed on a label on a specific product.The URN consists of three parts:

1. Two letter prefixes denoting states that have issued URNs.
2. Internal identifier for the state in which the plant is located.
3. Identifies the two-letter suffix of the state or country in which the factory is located.

For example, "CA-12345 (CN)" means that California awarded URN to a factory in China.

Key information on the legal label

1. Manufacturer Information: Include the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor.
2. material composition: Specify the type of material used in the product.
3. Care instructions: Provide product maintenance and cleaning instructions.
4. Compliance Information: Indicates whether the product complies with relevant safety regulations, such as fire safety standards.

Legal labeling is primarily associated with mattresses and is regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to ensure that mattresses meet safety requirements such as fire standards.
