Green Circle Talks Cross-Border] - Amazon, Walmart, Temu and Shein Sellers Overlap

Amazon, Walmart, Temu, and Shein sell many of the same items, often by the same third-party sellers.
According to Marketplace Pulse research, over 50% of Walmart sellers also sell on Amazon. This number is an underestimate because sellers are compared using their business names, although the standardization of business names to eliminate common differences such as "LLC" and "L.L.C." doesn't account for all the variations. This overlap is probably close to 80-90% because the average seller usually starts on Amazon and then expands to Walmart; it's rare to see a seller who only sells on Walmart or sells on Walmart first.
At least 20%'s Shein and Temu's recently launched marketplace sellers also sell items on Amazon and Walmart. As with Walmart, the actual overlap is probably higher. Almost all of the sellers are Chinese sellers with inventory in the U.S. Amazon and Walmart are ideal sources of sellers for Shein and Temu because these sellers are experienced in international sales and have imported inventory. In March of this year, Amazon and Walmart had over 50% new sellers from China; many of them have joined Shein and Temu or will soon.

Due to Amazon's indirect price parity requirements, sellers usually sell at the same price on Amazon and Walmart.Temu and Shein have lower fees and no advertising expenses, and sellers can sell at a lower price. However, their products are usually available on Amazon and Walmart, and delivery is faster. However, while still slower than two-day shipping, Shein and Temu's markets are growing because their inventories are increasing faster than their products, which are mainly imported directly from China.
Amazon's catalog is an order of magnitude larger than the others, and in addition to the apparel on Shein, it includes many of the same items as Walmart, Temu, and Shein. walmart is an offshoot of amazon, but adding the same sellers would close that gap. Temu only stocks a few brands from Amazon and Walmart, but most of the items they sell are sold there. shein has a unique edge in fast-fashion apparel, but the rest of the items are close to Temu.

The overlap between Amazon, Walmart, Temu, and Shein is growing.Temu's and Shein's low prices give the illusion of unique choices, but many of the same items have been available before, but at higher prices because they ship faster. Now that both companies are operating in their own markets, this overlap will only accelerate. However, Amazon and Walmart have a wider selection, which often comes from their retail relationships with brands; Temu and Shein can't match that. In China, Temu's parent company, PDD, eventually outgrew its initial selection to become one of the biggest sales channels for brands like Apple. The same pivot or expansion in the U.S. is much trickier.
