What is Extended Producer Responsibility?
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy that requires the producer (i.e., the first party to place a good that needs to comply with the EPR requirements in a given country/region [France or Germany]) to take responsibility for the entire life cycle of the good that it puts on the market, i.e., from the beginning of the design of the good to the end of the good's lifecycle (including the collection and disposal of waste).
What is an EPR registration number?
Also known as Lucid Packaging Registration Number (Germany) or Unique Identification Number (UIN) (France), if not uploaded Amazon will discontinue the sale of non-compliant merchandise under the EPR product category.
What are EPR product categories?
Germany: Packaging (released through the LUCID registration portal run by ZSVR), electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) (released through Stiftung ear) and batteries (Amazon only needs to collect packaging and WEEE registration numbers at this stage).
The EPR is categorized into 7 categories, Germany only needs to register the first 3 categories, while France needs to register all 7 categories.
France: Packaging, electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, furniture, tires, paper, textiles, chemicals, medical perforation equipment for automatic processing.
What are the implications of not being able to demonstrate EPR compliance to Amazon?
