Do you know what IOR and BOND are? The two keys to U.S. Customs clearance!

Sellers who regularly do cross-border e-commerce in the U.S. must understand the two key concepts of IOR and BOND! In the cross-border e-commerce business chain, cross-border logistics is an essential link. However, many cross-border e-commerce sellers face a common problem: thousands of shipments, the need to spend a lot of time counting and input tracking number, and different carriers of cross-border logistics systems, the operation is very cumbersome.

What I'm about to say may change your perception. If you want to import goods into the U.S., there are two key terms you must master: IOR (Importer of Record) and BOND, which are the basis of U.S. customs clearance, without them, the goods simply can not pass through customs!

IOR, or Importer of Record, is the import identification information that U.S. Customs requires from importers or their agents. The purpose of the IOR is to tell Customs: Who is responsible for the shipment? Who is responsible for the shipment, who pays the duty, and who ensures that the shipment complies with the regulations. Who will make sure the shipment meets the requirements? If there are any problems with the shipment, Customs will call the IOR.

Depending on the circumstances, IOR may be:

  1. U.S.-based companies: Usually have their own Importer of Record No., IRS No., or EIN No. and can process their own ISFs (Importer Security Filing).
  2. Non-U.S. companies (offshore companies): need to provide an Importer Record of No. and designate an "Ultimate Consignee" (Ultimate Consignee), usually need to appoint a professional international logistics company to assist in customs clearance.

BOND, simply put, is a "security deposit" that the U.S. Customs and Excise Department requires importers to purchase in order to protect the government from being left with no recourse if the importer fails to pay taxes or the goods are abandoned. For example, if your goods have incurred customs duties and storage fees during customs clearance, but you have not paid them, the Customs can directly deduct money from the BOND to compensate.

Enter the UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number of the corporate legal entity in the Amazon Store that you are importing for customs clearance in the UK. After confirming the customs information, select the carrier pickup date and time period. If you choose to drop off your shipment, the carrier's contact details will be displayed so you can coordinate your drop off.
