2025 Amazon FBA return warehouse so complicated, an article to understand the whole process!
2025 Amazon FBA return process is so complicated! For cross-border e-commerce sellers, effective management of the exit process can not only reduce losses, but also significantly improve the inventory turnover rate and the efficiency of the use of funds. However, many sellers do not understand the details of each step, resulting in a variety of problems in the withdrawal process.
First of all, it usually takes between 3 to 12 weeks from the time of requesting a backorder to the time of completing the backorder, which is much longer than most sellers expect. What's even more surprising is that this time varies significantly depending on factors such as geographic location, logistics and transportation, efficiency and special weather. It takes at least 3 to 7 days to receive and process inventory from overseas warehouses, plus the time it takes to ship inbound FBA, and about 45 days overall to exit and re-enter warehouses! The impact of this time point on the sales program should not be underestimated.
Regarding the timing point of the exit, unless it is to increase the warehouse capacity (Amazon allows the total unit limit of the warehouse), the exit operation should be avoided in Q4. For example, if a product is mislabeled or needs to be recalled, it is recommended that it be handled immediately to avoid negative reviews and account risks; and for products with slower sales rates, they should be exited 3 months before the sales season. Although the inventory will be empty immediately after the withdrawal, the IPI indicator will take 4~8 weeks to reflect, which is an important detail that many new sellers do not know.
The return address requirement is also very strict. Amazon requires that the address provided must be an actual address where the shipment can be received. Overseas addresses and local PO Box addresses are absolutely not accepted. More importantly, the recipient must be able to sign for the shipment within the specified delivery time, or else the package may be returned to Amazon, adding extra time and expense.
When the merchandise is returned to Taiwan from overseas warehouses, it needs to go through the process of import customs declaration. Sellers will need to provide complete product information and related documents, as well as estimate the cost of customs duties and value-added tax to avoid the cost of importing the merchandise. Once the merchandise is re-imported back to Taiwan, it may need to be repackaged or labeled to ensure that it meets the requirements for re-sale.
