2022, the EU EPR new rules in the cross-border trade circle set off a storm, Amazon, speed sell through, wish, dunhuang net cross-border platforms have released announcements, Germany and France do not have the EPR registration number will be regarded as a violation of the law, a time when cross-border sellers are concerned about the EPR is very high.
So, after we have registered for the EPR, how should the packaging label be printed in order to comply with the EU standards?
We have previously written two articles about the French Packaging Act, the French EEE and the Battery Act Recycling Labeling Specific How to Print articles for those of you who need to check them out.
French EEE and Battery Law Packaging Categorization Labeling Printing Guide
Today, I would like to share with you how German packaging law, battery law and WEEE should print recycling labels.
At the same time, I also recommend that sellers adjust the packaging printing of their products as soon as possible to ensure that the EPR of their products is fully compliant.
Is the printing of packaging labels mandatory for EPRs?
Vol.01 Battery Method
First, let's take a look at the German Battery Law on how recycling labels need to be printed.
Registration of products for the Battery Method is required:
- Batteries and accumulators (e.g., No. 5 batteries)
- Products with built-in batteries (e.g., cell phones, electronic watches)
- Products containing batteries (e.g., electric toys with batteries)
After registering for the Battery Law, the seller must print the logo on the product as required by BattG2 (painted forks, trash cans without crossbars):
If the battery size is smaller than 0.5 x 0.5cm, no need to print on the battery, you need to print the 1 x 1cm Battery Recycling Logo on the package and instructions, note: not labeling, but direct printing.
Vol.02 WEEE
The WEEE recycling labeling is very similar to the battery law, with the WEEE having a black line under the trash can and the battery law having no black line in the trash can.
Sellers are advised to print the following labels on the product packaging, product manual, and product labels after registering for WEEE (painted fork, trash can with black lever at the bottom):
The specifications are as follows:
a. The black line in the diagram must be used in conjunction with the trash can label with a slash.
b. The height of the bottom black line is not less than 0.3a or 1mm;
c. The height of the entire logo is not less than 7mm, scaled as follows:
d. If for special reasons it is not possible to mark the product, the marking must be reflected on the product packaging and instructions;
d. The marking must be clear, conspicuous and resistant to wear.
Vol.03 Packaging
Recycling labeling is not mandatory under German packaging law.
However, most sellers will automatically choose to print on the packaging, after all, European countries are more environmentally friendly.
Compared to the French recycling label, the German recycling label is much simpler (a three-arrow recycling label in either green or black):
The above printed instructions need to be registered before they can be used in compliance.
For EU EPR, the fee is charged according to the natural year, and the expiration date of each year is December 31st, so no matter whether you register in January or December, the fee is charged for one year, so we suggest sellers who need to arrange the registration as soon as possible.
EPR registration and recycling labeling are essential for sellers to be able to sell in the German market without them.
