I didn't expect it! Amazon Europe seller VAT registration is so important, 5 steps to avoid sales restrictions!

Attention Amazon Sellers in Europe! Can you believe it? Just because of a problem with your VAT registration information, your selling privileges can be severely restricted! This is not alarmist talk, but a real challenge that many Taiwanese cross-border sellers are facing.

Amazon is required to collect and verify sellers' VAT registration information in order to comply with the requirements of tax authorities in the EU member states, the UK, Norway and Switzerland. This is a critical step in ensuring that you are able to fulfill your VAT obligations. The biggest problem is that if the VAT information you provide in the SellerPlatform does not match the information stored in the official tax authorities' databases, Amazon will require you to update the information, otherwise selling privileges may be restricted!

To complete VAT compliance, you must, first, register a valid VAT registration number with the tax authorities for all countries with tax obligations, and second, ensure that the VAT registration information you provide on the seller platform is consistent with the legal name and address in the official tax agency database.

What's even more unexpected is that many sellers don't realize that Amazon has updated the functionality of the relevant page so that you can now choose the type of address that matches your actual situation when adding VAT registration information to the seller platform, including a legal address, a VAT group representative address, and a fiscal representative address, among others. If the address you provide is not a legal address, you may need to provide additional information to prove that the address is related to your company.

If you have received a performance notice requesting valid VAT information, please log in to the SellerPlatform and go to the Tax Setup page to update the information immediately. Amazon will verify that the information you have provided is consistent with the relevant tax organization's database. Once verified, your selling privileges will be restored, but please note that this process can take up to one week.

For FBA sellers who are unsure of the countries in which they have generated inventory, you can log in to the SellerPlatform and check the inventory history under "Data Reports > Tax Library > Amazon VAT Transaction Reports", and you can download up to one quarter's worth of data at a time.
