It's finally here! A complete VAT registration compliance guide for Amazon Europe sellers. Taiwan cross-border sellers, please pay special attention that if your VAT registration information is missing or cannot be verified successfully, sales privileges may be severely restricted, affecting your cross-border business development!
Amazon is required to collect and verify sellers' VAT registration information in order to comply with the requirements of tax authorities in the EU member states, the UK, Norway and Switzerland. This ensures that VAT is consistently and accurately applied to your sales, allowing you to fulfill your VAT obligations. VAT registration obligations are triggered, for example, when you use Amazon's logistics (FBA) service, or store merchandise in European overseas warehouses, or sell merchandise to corporate buyers.
What really helps is that to be VAT compliant, you must meet two conditions: first, register a valid VAT registration number for all countries with tax obligations; and second, make sure that the VAT registration information you provide on the seller's platform matches the legal name and address in the official tax agency database.
Even more surprisingly, Amazon accepts many types of VAT registered addresses, including legal addresses, VAT group representative addresses, fiscal representative addresses, tax organization addresses, service provider addresses, and more. If you provide a non-legal address, you may be required to provide additional information that proves the relationship between that address and your company.
If you have been notified of a request for valid VAT information, please log in to the SellerPlatform and go to the Tax Setup page to update your information immediately. Once verified, your selling privileges will be restored, but this process can take up to a week.
For sellers who are not sure which countries they need to register for VAT, you can log in to the SellerPlatform, click [Amazon Logistics] in the upper-right corner of [Settings], and then click [Edit] to enter the [Amazon Logistics Europe Integration Service] interface to check your current inventory opening settings and VAT registration number compliance status.
In addition, if you want to expand your business in Europe, you can consider joining Amazon Logistics' Pan-European Integration Service (Pan-EU) or Central Europe Program (CEP). By opening warehouses in more countries, you can enjoy Pan-EU benefits in more countries and save about 55% in cross-country delivery fees. By joining the CEP, you can save 0.26 EUR per item, and save 1,300 EUR per year on FBA fees when the sales volume reaches 5,000 items!
