You'll never guess! Japan's new consumption tax policy goes into effect in October, Amazon sellers who do not upload JCT numbers will seriously affect sales!

You would never have guessed that the new Japanese Consumption Tax (JCT) compliance invoice retention policy, which comes into effect on October 1, 2023, would have such a huge impact on cross-border sellers in Taiwan! According to the new policy, if a buyer with corporate procurement needs receives an invoice without the seller's JCT registration number, they will not be able to apply for JCT input credit. What does this mean? It means that sellers who fail to upload their JCT registration number in a timely manner will see a significant negative impact on their sales and store competitiveness.

What's most eye-opening is that Amazon Japan has fully uploaded two new front-end features to cope with this policy change! The first is a dedicated badge for sellers who can issue compliant invoices, allowing buyers to recognize them at a glance; the second is the addition of an "invoice type" filter, which allows corporate buyers to directly filter out products that can be issued compliant invoices. These features have been implemented automatically and no application is required!

What's more noteworthy is that enterprise buyers can also set "restriction rules" and "filtering rules", and can even completely block goods that cannot provide a compliant invoice. For cross-border e-commerce sellers, this is a major change that should not be ignored.

If you have already obtained a JCT registration number, please login to Amazon SellerPlatform to upload it immediately. The steps are very simple: Login to the platform → Go to the tax settings page → Select "Yes, I am obligated to file consumption tax returns in Japan" → Add JCT registration number → Save the settings.

For the import mode, Taiwan sellers usually need to use the Administrator of Customs Control Program (ACP) to import goods to Japan. If you want to deduct import excise tax in the declaration section, you must import using the ACP mode and pay import excise tax using your own legal entity number in order to get a compliant tax bill that can be used for deduction.
