Sellers who regularly do Amazon Japan should pay attention! Starting from October 1, 2023, the new Japanese Consumption Tax (JCT) compliance invoice retention policy has officially come into effect, which has a significant impact on Taiwanese sellers on global e-commerce platforms. According to regulations, sellers who are obliged to apply for a JCT registration number must submit an application and file a compliance return in accordance with the law, otherwise corporate buyers will not be able to apply for JCT input credits.
The biggest problem is that if sellers don't submit their JCT registration number to Amazon by October 1, 2023, not only will their sales and store competitiveness be negatively impacted, but they won't be able to enjoy the same competitive advantages as sellers who have already obtained their JCT registration number. I don't know how sellers who haven't uploaded their JCT registration numbers all these years are going to cope with this challenge.
Currently, Amazon Japan has fully launched two new front-end features that will directly affect sellers' sales performance. The first feature is to provide a "special badge" for sellers who can open a compliant invoice, which sellers can obtain by uploading their JCT registration number on the platform; the second feature is to add a filter for "invoice type", which has been implemented automatically and does not require application.
More noteworthy is that corporate buyers can also set up "restriction rules" and "filtering rules". When a corporate employee purchases a product that cannot be invoiced, the administrator will receive a reminder and can set up a review process; or they can even set it up so that they can only purchase products that can be invoiced, completely blocking out sellers that don't meet the criteria.
If you have already obtained a JCT registration number, please login to the Amazon SellerPlatform to upload it immediately. The specific steps are very simple: Login to the platform → Go to the tax setup page → Select "Yes, I am obliged to file consumption tax returns in Japan" → Add JCT registration number → Save the settings.
For the import mode, Amazon cross-border sellers are usually required to use either an Administrator of Customs Services (ACP) or an Importer of Record (IOR) to import FBA shipments. Please note that Amazon and its operations centers cannot be selected as the ACP or IOR for any imported shipments using FBA logistics.
