Unexpectedly, the requirements of modern consumers for oral care products have far exceeded the aesthetic level, and the rise of health consciousness is reshaping the entire market! How can oral care brands meet these growing demands while ensuring the safety of their products? SGS Taiwan experts have compiled a list of key compliance requirements for cross-border e-commerce sellers of oral care products:
Standards that must be followed for oral hygiene products (toothpaste, tooth powder, mouthwash, etc.):
- Product additives are subject to strict safety regulations in Taiwan, please refer to the Cosmetic Hygiene and Safety Administration Act, Article 3, Section 2 and Health Authorized Food No. 1071610115 for more details.
- Heavy metal testing is a basic requirement, and you'd never guess that the four heavy metals that must be tested for include arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury.
- Microbial control is also key, with standardized tests covering aerobic counts, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans.
- Whether the amount of preservatives added complies with the standard is also a key point of examination.
- Ingredients that should never be included in the product include formaldehyde, western drugs, estrogen, steroids and other harmful substances.
- What is even more remarkable is that experts also recommend evaluating key factors affecting the usage experience such as "diethylene glycol, triclosan, pH, effective fluorine content, and product stability".
Special Note: Denture Cleaning Lozenges are classified as a Class I Medical Device, FDA Medical Device Classification Code F3520, and must be labeled with a "Medical Device Permit" on the packaging and a "Drug Dealer Permit" for the channel of sale, which is especially important for sellers who want to set up a store on Amazon.com globally.
Compliance points for oral cleaning aids (toothbrushes, dental floss, interdental brushes):
- Toothbrush products must comply with Taiwan's CNS 964 and ISO 20126 and other commodity standards, and pass a number of performance tests to verify that the bristles are strong and the handle is durable.
- Electric toothbrushes should not only pay attention to the quality of the bristles, electrical safety is even more critical, must be tested by international standards and regularly updated with relevant quality reports.
- Don't overlook the safety of floss and flossing sticks! The ISO international standard strictly evaluates the overall material, shape and strength of these products, as well as the presence of perfluoroalkyl compounds (PFACs) such as PFOS/PFOA.
- The smoothness of use, firmness of the bristles, durability of the bristles, and the service life of the interdental brushes are determined by specific tests in accordance with ISO international standards.
