With these three strokes, Taiwan sellers easily master the U.S. import customs clearance CBP 7501 form full strategy

80% Taiwanese cross-border seller made a mistake in the first step of filling out the U.S. CBP 7501 form! This document, known as the Entry Summary, is the "passport" to the U.S. market, but its importance is often overlooked. Today, we're going to break down every key point of this form for all e-commerce entrepreneurs!

This form is authorized by U.S. law to identify merchandise entering U.S. commerce and to record the amount of duty. Filling it out incorrectly can not only delay customs clearance, but can also result in additional fines and investigations. Now, with this detailed instruction manual, you'll be able to fill out each item as accurately as a customs professional.

First of all, we need to understand the basic structure of the form, CBP 7501 is divided into 43 items covering all aspects from basic identification information to tariff calculation. The entry number in item 1 consists of a 3-digit filer code, a 7-digit entry number, and a 1-digit verification code, the calculation of which is explained in detail in Appendix 1. This is the "identity card" of the entire form and must be accurate.

The type of entry in item 2 determines how your goods will be processed by Customs. For example, Consumer Entry (01-08), Unofficial Entry (11-12), and Warehouse Entry (21-26), etc. Each type has specific processing procedures and requirements. Choosing the right type of entry is the first step in ensuring smooth customs clearance.

Of particular importance to Taiwanese manufacturers are Item 10, Country of Origin, and Item 13, Manufacturer's ID (MID), which is a code of no more than 15 characters consisting of the name and address of the manufacturer. According to Appendix 2, there are specific rules for the construction of the MID that must be strictly followed. This code is the key to identifying the source of your goods for Customs and Excise, and incorrectly filling in the code may result in the goods being detained.

What really helps you understand is that this manual not only explains the requirements for each item, but also provides specific examples and notes. From the cargo location in item 21 to the customs broker/importer document number in item 43, every detail can affect the outcome of your customs clearance. In particular, the description of goods in Column 28 and the visa number/certificate of conformity/export certificate in Column 33 should not be overlooked for specific commodities such as textiles.
