What a surprise, Rufus, Amazon's generative AI shopping assistant, is now fully open to all U.S. consumers! This expert shopping assistant based on generative AI is now available to all U.S. users of the Amazon Shopping app, after being released in February this year and tested in closed beta.

What it means for cross-border e-commerce sellers and Taiwanese manufacturers is that Rufus has been trained to answer a wide range of shopping needs and product questions through Amazon's extensive catalog, buyer reviews, community Q&A, and information from all over the web. For example, when an American consumer asks, "What do I need for a pool party?" or "What's the trend in jeans?

What's even more amazing is that users can simply update and relaunch the Amazon Shopping app to see the new Rufus feature. Clicking on it brings up a chat window to ask about specific product details, such as whether a particular brand of coffee maker is easy to clean; ask it to recommend products, such as a list of the best outdoor wireless speakers; or even compare the differences between OLED and QLED TVs.

Notably, Rufus can also answer order-related questions such as "when will the dog food be delivered" or "when was the last time you purchased sunscreen," which greatly enhances the customer experience. Although generative AI technology is still in its early stages, Amazon is constantly improving its AI models to make Rufus better able to serve buyers.

Meanwhile, according to the market survey, consumers in North America have a strong demand for smart home products, with 76% U.S. respondents willing to increase their budget to buy smart home products. The "sense of security," "sense of ceremony," and "home comfort" have become the main factors for consumers to consider when shopping, providing cross-border sellers with huge business opportunities.
